A Chinese boy is about to receive life-changing surgery to remove a melon sized tumor located at the base of his spine.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The Global Times reported that the 9-month old was born with a fist sized tumor on his backside, and was then abandoned by his mother just a few days after his birth, leaving the baby's 25-year-old father to deal with the rising medical expenses relating to the growing tumor.

You Shen, the father, took the baby to a number of hospitals in southeast China, but no doctors were able to help him.
Finally, surgeons at Quanzhou Women's and Children's Hospital in Fujian Province agreed to remove the pediatric teratoma, which by then had grown to the size of a melon.
Donations started to poor in to help cover the cost of the life-saving surgery after local media picked up the story.
Experts at the hospital believe they can successfully remove the tumor, and that the boy will make a full recovery.
