Two soldiers injured during a terrorist attack in Algeria

Algeria continues to pay for its fight against terrorism. After a deadly attack perpetrated in the region of Ain Defla on July 17, against an army patrol, terrorist groups reappeared in the eastern region of Batna on July 27 with an attack against a military barrack.

ALGIERS, ALGERIA (Catholic Online) - Terrorists attacked, the night of Saturday through Sunday for around 23 hours, an army barrack located in the commune of Oued Chaaba, at 15 kilometers southwest of the capital of province of Batna. The first news release reported two soldiers slightly wounded in the crossfire.

The terrorists were reported to be in great numbers, but divided into subgroups to minimize the loss, in case of counterattack. The first raw information maintained that the attackers used homemade mortars (Habhab) to attain their target.

Several helicopters were sent to help during the minutes following the attack. The terrorist operation appears to have been carefully prepared, since another source says the electricity went off a few minutes before the attack.

A considerable number of soldiers continue to comb the area. The use of homemade bombs and other weapons by the Islamist armed groups corroborate their standing in the fabrication of weapons and willpower to continue the war against the population.
