This Third Sunday of Advent is called Gaudete Sunday. On this day, we recognize the closeness of the Lord. He is not only coming, He is near! We are more than halfway through Advent. We mark this day by lighting the third candle on our Advent wreath, which is traditionally colored pink. At Mass, we will see the priest wearing pink or rose-colored vestments. The color signifies that we look forward to the arrival of Christ. It is a day of relaxation from the normal sacrifices and preparations of Advent, a sort-of mini-Easter.
For reflection, let us contemplate with joy the closeness of Our Lord. In just about ten days' time, He will arrive!
